Can you blow yourself up with a home beer making kit?
I got a beer making kit as a gift. Someone told me to be careful that they can blow up. Is that true or a load of bull?

No, you cannot blow yourself up. You can however cause your bottles to explode by using too much priming sugar for when you are bottling your fermented beer. It will not be anything like a distillery exploding. The bottles may crack and fragment or the bottle caps will pop off. It is not dangerous, but may startle you at first and make a big mess.
The dangerous part of moonshine distilling comes from the fact that you are using high temperatures with a metal still. If there is an obstruction, you will get a pressure build up and essentially create a ridiculous steam pressure bomb.
Beer can't.
Moonshine can.
The only explosive part that could happen to beer is Co2 pressure build up and it would blow up. Ever see a dry ice bomb?

When you bottle beer if you use too much priming sugar, don't wait till the fermentation is done or use weaker twist top bottles they can blow up and send shard of glass flying. I would no call that blowing yourself up but it's dangerous.
If you are moonshining then you can have big explosions and fires.
