Malt extract is used for a lot of things including bread making and beer making. We used to get a spoonful as kids growing up to build us up. I have found it in A&P store in organic section but they will no longer be selling it when they finish their supply. Bulk food also sells it much higher price.

You can get it in most health food or natural food store, either in a liquid form or powder, GNC and Nutrition House stock it, even some Shoppers DM.

I am a former chef and live in Toronto, and have found it here in many places, even a Bulk Barn can have it.
