I would like to buy my husband a HomeBrewing Beer Kit which is the best?
Plastic bucket or glass jar, which one?
Happy Holidays!
The plastic buckets are a economical option, although way over priced for what they are. They do not last long and over time develop tiny scratches which are impossible to sanitize and become unusable. For a long lasting ferment er go for all glass. They are worth the investment and if possible I recommend getting a 6.5 gal. and a 5 gal. glass carboy kit. To be honest if your husband really enjoys home brewing he will eventually get the glass carboys anyway. If you have time go check out some flea markets, I have bought all my carboys at flea markets at less than 50% of what they charge on line and at brew shops I even once found a set of 6.5 and 5 gal. for only $12.
I have only tried one. It was fun and the beer was pretty darn good. Mr. Beer. Here is the site:

The kits with glass jars, funnels and hoses are a lot harder and for the more serious home brewer. these are people who really are involved in this for a hobby. It takes time and work. you have to be very careful otherwise you have a mess and bacteria laden beer. Mr. Beer is simple and more for someone wanting to have simple fun or see if home brewing is for them.

This kit here seems like a pretty good deal. Or at least what you should expect to pay for a decent kit (still a rip off though) You could also check out Ebay
